Checklists

Natural disasters can strike at any time, leaving families and communities in chaos, and without the basic necessities of life. That’s why it’s essential to have an emergency kit on hand in case of such an event.

Being prepared with an emergency kit can make all the difference in ensuring your safety and well-being during and after a natural disaster. Whether you’re facing hurricanes or wildfires or earthquakes or floods, by preparing an emergency kit ahead of time, you can help ensure that you and your loved ones are prepared for any situation that may arise, and will help ensure that you’re ready to face whatever comes your way.

From food and water and medications to first aid kits, communications devices and important documents, it’s crucial to have a comprehensive emergency kit. Additionally, it’s important to customize your emergency kit based on your location and the types of disasters that are most likely to occur in your area.

If you have children, it’s important to bring items that will help comfort them and help keep them calm during what will likely be a very scary situation. Things like games or their favorite stuffed animal or their favorite snack should be included in your family’s emergency kit.

Keep canned and packaged food in a cool, dry place. Be sure to check expiration dates at least twice a year. Store food in tightly closed plastic or metal containers.

Replace your water supply every 6 months.

Review your needs every year and update your kits as your family’s needs change. Be sure to update medical information and personal records at least once a year).
Prepare separate kits for work, home and your vehicle since you never know where you’ll be when a natural disaster occurs.

After you have your emergency kit together, be sure to work out your emergency plan.
